Open: APPLICATION SCIENTIST

The Applications Scientist is part of a team of 10 other application specialists within our healthcare and materials science client sector who provide technical support to ICeNd's global sales efforts targeting academic, government, and other science-related customers. This customer-focused position is appropriate for an experienced technologist who wants to work with a dynamic team while showing the strength of our technology, assisting clients with characterization difficulties, and serving as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders. Working on cutting edge high-end nanofabrication devices and advanced theory, this person is exposed to a constant variety of client application areas while collaborating with the world's best scientists and laboratories.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality scientific experiments and demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for ICeNd partners and customers.

  • Customer support and applications training post sales cycle and after the instrument has been installed. Translate customer needs into workable solutions.

  • Providing technical product expertise assistance during all phases of the sales cycle.

  • Cultivating positive customer relationships and acting as a high level customer interface for specific instrument/applications issues, explaining complex technology details, giving in depth technical presentations, and assisting in applications development.

  • Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.

  • Act as a primary communication conduit to the manufacturing department by reporting engineering and production issues from customers to ICeNd.

  • Troubleshoot and report software and hardware issues and escalate as necessary.

  • Provide feedback to engineering on system performance, features and problems.

  • Recommend and advise on direction for potential applications consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.

  • Provide technical support to our Sales team, R&D, Manufacturing, Customer Service and other departments as required.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Typically requires a MSc or MTech or ME in a scientific discipline, preferably electronics, physics, chemistry background with experience in Materials Science, Biophysics, Fluid Dynamics, and Nanoengineering.

  • Hands-on experience in tuning and using TEMs, CFD simulations, nanofabrication, and nanofluidics.

  • Knowledge of advanced technology and diagnostics as well as operational optimization experience of analytical equipment; specifically electron beam, ultra high vacuum and physical vapour deposition, spectrometers or other analytical techniques required.

  • Excellent, enthusiastic, clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with a diverse audience are essential to the success of this position.

  • Excellent customer interfacing skills a must

  • Proven ability to interact with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams

  • Frequent traveling (up to 50%) and ability to travel both domestically internationally, possession of a valid passport.

OAR wishes to appoint a full time (40 hours/week) general secretary/senior secretary/administrator to work with CCMB and OAR and oversee the administration operation of OAR, to ensure smooth running of its predominantly research focused activities.

The post holder is expected to work with the Directors to fully support the varied needs of OAR. This involves day to day coordination of the institutes activities including seminars, research grant administration, publications programme, the library, supporting research students and research staffs. Develop and maintain office procedures. Review processes and develop systems for effective administration of OAR. Maintain records, website content, publicity resources and materials, coordinate the use of facilities and equipment, check and oversee repairs and report any health and safety issues. Oversee financial administration duties. Monitor resources and expenditure against budgets, process invoices and orders following financial regulations, liaise with accounts to ensure that department accounts are up to date, ensure efficiency and effectiveness of processes and procedures, develop and review processes as required. Act as secretary to committees/meetings. Coordinate administrative support for research activities. Liaise with other staff in the Department/section/unit and within the institute. Gather and manipulate data on various aspects of the department as required, collate and analyse data and report as necessary. Support basic HR related issues.
